How does it work?
The Adams Diet weight management system is a carefully designed system that will create a weight loss of 1-2lbs a week until your natural weight for your height is reached. We’ve developed the system around nationally and scientifically approved models of a daily balanced diet and our body's physical activity needs and done all the calorie counting for you – so it's a simple, easy to follow and easy to learn system.
In fact it’s so obvious that you’ll wish you thought of it yourself!
The system works by teaching you how to visualise a portion of food or a weight of food and to learn how many much of each food group you need to maintain optimum health. The system is NOT about making you reliant on our products – they are merely tools to teach you how to self manage your weight – for life!
However, as you are reading this you might feel – "my problem is more in my head….I need to change the way I think"
This is the second part of the system. Check out our Psychology (add link) to find out how it can help!
Want to know more?
Our bodies need food and water to survive. Even if you are laid up in bed ill, your body still needs food and water to keep your heart beating, your lungs working, your blood flowing, your immune and nerve systems working.
How much food and water you need very much depends on how much you are asking of your body.
Huh?
Imagine you have a car that you only ever use at weekends for going to the shops. How often would you put petrol in it? Not very often.
Likewise if you are not asking your body to do much (e.g. if your weekly routines and habits mean that you sit or stand for long periods of the day (e.g. office, computer work or driving etc) then you really don’t needs much body fuel – food!
However, imagine you commute 50 miles every day to work in your car. How often would you put petrol in it? Rather a lot!
Likewise, the more activity you do, the more fuel your body will need.
How much fuel a car needs to make a journey is measured in litres of gallons. (The car converts this fuel into energy)
How much fuel your body needs to meet the demands made on it can be said to be measured in calories. (The body converts food and drink into energy and calories are a measure of energy)
Unlike a car, which has a petrol tank to store any fuel it doesn’t use each day, the body cannot store its fuel in the stomach for use the next day.
Instead it works a credit and debit system like a bank account
If you put more money in your bank account than you take out you will be in credit with money left at the end of the month. You will be in credit.
If you spend the same amount of money as you put in then at the end of the month you will be in balance at the end of the month
If you spend more than you put in your bank account, you will be in debt and your account will be in the red.
For weight loss you want to put your body in THE RED on a daily basis.
For weight maintenance you want your body to be IN BALANCE
For weight gain you want to be in credit.
The estimated average calorie requirements if you are the correct weight for your height (see BMI chart) are
- 1940 kcals a day for a woman
- 2550 kcals a day for a man
These amounts are likely to maintain your weight, unless you are very active.
Many of us
- Are not the correct weight for our height
- Are not very active
- Are regularly in CREDIT at the end of the day so are gradually putting on weight.
So how does the system solve this?
The Adams Diet, if followed will put you IN THE RED until you reach your correct weight for your height. In banking terms – we want you to use your overdraft (which is your fat store!)
It doesn’t do this by immediately leaving your body short of food and uncomfortable, because this would trigger a whole range of physical responses in your body which would leave you listless, low in mood, hungry and would also make you more likely to put on more weight in the long term.
Instead the system works gradually – aiming to reduce your calorie intake by moderate amounts, which is about 1-2lb a week weight loss. If you are very overweight it is likely that in the first few weeks you will lose more than 1-2lb a week although the weight loss will reduce as your weight does.
The Adams Diet will not work for long-term weight loss if you reduce the amount of recommended portions or skip meals. This system is designed to promote optimum nutrition, encourage steady weight loss, and achieve the holy grail of lifelong weight management.
